The Canada Dental Benefit program is designed to support families with limited income, helping them afford essential dental care for children.
The interim Canada Dental Benefit provides financial support for eligible families earning less than $90,000 annually. This benefit is specifically for parents or guardians who need assistance covering dental expenses for children under 12 who do not have private insurance.
If you are 65 or older, you might qualify for the upcoming Canadian Dental Care Plan:
Families eligible for the Canada Dental Benefit can receive tax-free payments from the federal government, covering dental expenses for children under 12. Payments range from $260 to $650 per child, depending on family income. Applications are open through the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) website until June 30, 2024.
The program started on December 1, 2022, covering expenses retroactively from October 1, 2022.
Parents or guardians must apply through the CRA website, where they’ll provide details about their child’s dental care provider, appointment dates, and employer information. They’ll also need to confirm that their child lacks private dental coverage and will have out-of-pocket expenses.
The benefit covers a wide range of essential treatments for children, including:
Care under the benefit can be provided by licensed general dentists, denturists, and dental hygienists.
In Ontario, several publicly funded programs provide dental care to individuals with disabilities, low-income families, seniors, and certain newcomers.
